Edited 12 days agoThis is what I've put together from compiling information available at the time of release in 2009, 2011 and 2012:
* 2009: Rhino, licensing from Warner, released a remaster of the Smiths albums on vinyl in US and UK; remaster was done by Johnny Marr and Frank Arkwright
* 2011: Rhino, licensing from Warner, released these album remasters, as well as remasters by Marr and Arkwright of Rank, Hatful of Hollow, and Louder Than Bombs as CD and vinyl box sets
* 2011: Warner released the remasters by Arkwright and Marr as individual entries on CD, at least in Europe
* 2012: Warner released the remasters by Arkwright and Marr as individual entries, on vinyl, and only in Europe
* Since 2012: both Rhino and Warner have reissued some of the the Arkwright and Marr remasters, on vinyl and CD and in some cases multiple times; countries vary
This entry is Warner, btw. -
Edited one month agoThere’s not much that needs to be said about the album and the songs. Great tracks from start to finish. Nothing to skip. Even in the band’s earlier phase, they already delivered – both musically and lyrically. For my taste, the production still lacks a bit of depth; a bit more bass would be nice in some places. Other than that, the sound of the record is fantastic. Great stereo image and detailed sound.

This is a great sound but this is in desperate need of a 2LP, no idea why this is 1LP. These songs are starving for air to breathe…
-
Edited one month agoThis sounds fantastic, very happy with the sound but in general the reason for the comments and the reason you need to crank the volume is because this needs to be split onto 2 discs. Should never have been on a single disc in the first place 40 years ago, These need room to breathe.

This definitely sounds different to streaming. Hits like “Heaven Knows I’m Miserable Now” and “This Charming Man” sounds much more clear compared to the muddy Spotify mix. Also, the song selection is spot on. Definitely a must have for those looking for an affordable Smiths record that has it all.
-
They crammed a lot on here, and you gotta turn the volume way up to listen at a respectable volume, but this mostly sounds good. The end of Side A kinda sounds very flat for some reason, but the rest of the album is very dynamic
-
Lots of music on each side, but this seems to be pretty well mastered, you do have to crank it a bit... I've always listened to this one more than any of their other official albums... white paper inner so it required a cleaning.

Edited 5 months agoSounds wonderful. Wish it had slightly more bottom end on a couple tunes. But that’s just how they were mixed. Worth it just for “How Soon Now?” Just killer
-
...and even that old CD has a great dynamics at WDDIM... Better than the old album had. My favo the Smiths -record. Oddly.
