Van Halen – For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge

Pouring on the gas that is this remastered masterpiece. Clean, tight and full of all sound parameters that separate bands of this era from one with the great musicianship and production that is Van Halen. I was there for the show in Cedar Rapids IA and it was spectacular and listening to this, felt I was there again. Just wished the enclosed notes made some mention of the band rants about security being so lax for Hank Williams show the day before but being absolute Gestapo for the VH fans. They were white hot pissed for the entire gig.

I compared this to my OG German CD, which sounds good. This was a well recorded, produced and mastered album in the first place. I am glad they did not try to make this new version hotter than the old version which was already pretty hot. What they did do on this new one is clean everything up so you can hear the individual instruments better. I focused on Pleasuredome and Right Now to compare the old with the new. On the old, the cymbals are bit splashy and you don't hear some of the things that are deep in the mix. On the new, the cymbals and drums are cleaned up, I can hear the individual drums perfectly, I can hear parts of the bass line that I couldn't hear before. I can hear the guitars better on the new. Overall the mids are cleaner. On Right Now , the piano really pops on the new version. The old version has plenty of bass and punch, but maybe at a detriment to clarity of the whole. Overall, I enjoy the new version better. A very enjoyable listen. Plus, I got it for $55 on sale at Amazon, you can't go wrong at that price.

Just echoing what most have said. This sounds incredible! I had been holding off on buying this, despite the good reviews, because I didn’t need the extra CDs. However, I noticed it was going for $45 on Amazon one day. So at that price, I’d have been foolish to not grab it and one for my buddy. So glad I did! Sounds so full and punchy. Vinyl is dead quiet and flat. They made the right call spreading it out over two discs. I really hope they release a version with just the double vinyl, for people that don’t want or need the extras.

So glad to finnaly get my hands on this pressing. Got it online from a Limundo auction (serbian alternative for eBay) for 40€ in VG++ condition, the only time I've seen one in the wild was in a Berlin record store for 90€ without the OIS so i had to but with a heavy heart. The pressing is great, a little quiet but that is to be expected because of the length and year of relase. My tip if you ever find this one in the wild and love the Sammy era, buy it if you can. Because chances of it popping up again are slim. Glad to finnaly have an original, the reissue to me does not sound as good, but to each his own.

P.s. I love this album, it is in my top 3 Van Halen records and i will never understand the hate for the period in which Sammy fronted the band. Poundcake rules

Vinyl looks and sounds great so far, the 2 audio CDs came scuffed up assuming due to the poor box design for the CD aspect. I haven’t tried them out yet to see if they’re messed up or not. The Blu-ray was unscathed by the box and still looks new
