dBridge and co. sold this as yet another resurrection of dnb to place it well in the Resident Advisor and other music journalists who obviously had been disconnected to the trends for ages, and it was funny as when it was released there were discussions in forums about if the Croms track could be considered as drum n bass when it was, and it is, very obviously a synth wave tune with all its tropes. That era is so weird. Artists released uk garage, or takes on broken beat, and it was presented as what? Post dubstep or drum n bass. And discussion forums were not better than this.
Having said that, this is a good collection of the kind of "autonomic" dnb, or any other label you want to put to the glitchy, idm oriented subgenre of dnb that ASC and instra:mental were famous for at the era and other artists like bop were actively ignored for not being in the right label. There is a lot of what shaped the famous ASC Ra podcast, probably the best podcast that site has released. -
Can anyone comment on the pressing of City Section? My copy is spotless but the bass is not a smooth warble like the digital release, both it and the stabs in the breakdown are distorted like it was cut way hot. Also missing a lot of high end, very strange!
