Superbe enregistrement. Très bonne dynamique dans l'ensemble des instruments. Je ne connais pas les autres versions, mais celle-ci est vraiment très réussie.

If the recording quality was top-notch I would give this 5 stars. The music itself cannot be faulted - how could it be with this fantastic line-up? Apparently the distortion is a problem on all releases of this album, including CDs, so it's not a pressing error, or even a mastering error. The shows were recorded too hot and so there is a lot of distortion on the horns, and even sometimes on the piano. What a shame.

Decent sound, nothing outstanding.

Same non fill woes as Vol.1 even after 4 copies.

It seems Kevin Gray can do no wrong. This one is a solid copy as well. Instruments are will separated with strong presence, and yet everything is put together as whole, with good pace. A very nice recording of “music session”.

Does anyone know if this release is made from the original master tapes? I recently found one for sale in my local shop, but no blue stiker on front. Also, on the back no information's regarding this aspect. Does the first reissues come without the stiker?

Just like Volume 1 this is just such a great pressing. sounds clean and clear with great spacing.

I think I prefer Volume 1 as well, blue note originals tend to sound just okay. The 80th anniversary reissue is much better though and brings out the most in the recordings, even as its limiting at times.

I’ll go full rebuttal and say Volume 2 rules and the sound is great.

Like Volume One, the sound quality isn't great, which is a shame as again there is some decent Hard Bop from this, the best version of the Jazz Messengers, featuring Morgan, Shorter, Timmons and Merritt. This isn't essential, but it's worth a listen. If I had to choose one or the other, I prefer Volume One, although both are available together as a double CD.
