I have bought all four LPs in the 2024 reissue programme and all have been superb pressings. This album in particular was inky-black quiet with no ticks or pops. I had bought their first two LP releases in the 1970s, but this one eluded me for some reason. The mix is pure Martin Hannett and it is certainly thin (think Spector’s ‘Wall of Sound”) - I prefer John Leckie’s production on ‘Real Life’, but this is still a worthy purchase. Magazine were a great band with superb musicians with the enigmatic Howard Devoto on vocals. I like the sticker on the outer sleeve with a comment from ‘Whispering’ Bob Harris declaring that ‘for New Wave, this isn’t bad’!
