Ramsey Lewis – Sun Goddess

I have many Ramsey Lewis lps and just picked this up today. I cannot believe i have not obtained this until now, my shame, to be sure :) Just beautiful.

That's just petty.

I have a copy of this with the exact same runouts shown here (P AL 33194-1D / P BL 33194-1E) but it has the standard red Columbia labels as shown on other US versions with the same catalog number.

I am listening to the MOV pressing of "Sun Goddess" as I write this, and it sounds great. The only thing is, in the "Notes" on this page it says that the cover is full gloss. It isn't. It's a rather ordinary matt finish. Cheapens the aesthetic value but it's a fine, funky album.

There’s a lot to like here. So many genres fused into this record, sounds great, very warm, and you can get it on the cheap!

On it's own there is nothing wrong with this release, except for the attempt at reproducing that warm vinyl sound which usually means boosting and noise reduction. When compared directly to this edition, Ramsey Lewis - Sun Goddess, well, there is no comparison, the Austrian edition is amazingly dynamic and wide open.

A stunning digital transfer, the recording jumps out of the speakers. Significantly more dynamic than this edition, Ramsey Lewis - Sun Goddess.

Glad I waited for this OG pressing. It sounds amazing. I can’t believe this LP is almost 50 years old. Love the soundstage and separation. Truly essential addition to my collection. A must have for lovers of Ramsey Lewis and EWF
