Al Stewart – Time ages

Pretty thin sounding CD. Super clean sounding but lacking proper bass and low mids. Al's voice is a bit harsh at times with the way the EQd it.

I love Steely Dan. I discovered this album from Spotify as a recommendation and can not thank them enough. I knew of only the titled track. The entire album is a yacht rock banger! I purchased mine on eBay for $6.00 plus $5.00 shipping. A total steal.

If you listen to Valentina Way for example, you can hear the toms/snare are almost missing compared to previous CD masters. Almost like the attacks were hit with a click remover. Don't waste your money on this sloppy remaster.

A bit too bright and harsh at times but the boosted bass really works in this album’s favor. I’ve always found this album to sound either too thin or too dead (depending on the pressing) which MoFi fixed here

I can't imagine this album sounding any better than this. This version is audiophile quality, it's that good.

This 16-bit reissue (Qobuz) is almost certainly a remaster: the clarity, dynamics, and mix are perfect. I sometimes forget that 16-bits can sound extremely good IF done correctly. This is a good example. I can't find any faults at all.

Got it on a whim because it was 2 euro. The seller has also had the german pressing but it was in a slightly worse shape so I bit the bullet on this one. I've been worried that it won't live up to the excellent German and US RCA 70s LPs I own but, I'm glad to say, it turned out to sound amazing. A very slight bit warmer than I'm used to with issues from other countries - there's a minor bit less sizzle in the high mids to my ears. Fantastic instrument separation. A very nice pressing overall.

Other than "Year Of The Cat" and "Time ages", I'm not too familiar with Al Stewart, but I quite enjoyed this album. Perhaps it's the vocal style, but he reminds me a bit of Donovan. Aside from the title track, "A Man For All Seasons", "Timeless Skies" and "Song On The Radio" stand out from the pack. Alan Parsons produced and engineered this sonic beauty, and this pressing sounds impressive, very detailed, dynamic, full, and clear, with an immersive soundstage. My copy plays through nice and clean, with virtually no surface noise.
