This pressing is AWESOME. Mastering is clear, precise, deep, balanced, exactly as this record needs: you feel as if you were in the studio with the band.
Pressing is also amazing. Absolutely 0 complaints and I'm the annoying type of vinyl geek (listen to most of it on professional headphones. -
EU blue vinyl here which sounds clean as anything, with no pops and hisses to be found. Not saying they'll all be perfect but it's certainly not true to say that all copies of the album, or indeed all colour records, have the same sound issues.
And as for 'Turtleneck': I figure it's meant to represent the 'beast' that is kept at bay for the rest of the songs, but which is only 'sleeping' so makes an occasional appearance. -
Great pressing with plenty of depth and delicacy. Sorry to hear others have suffered with dirt and surface noise - no such problems here. If it's faulty, return it - still no shortage of these in stock around the country.
-
This blue record version has some surface noise. Recording and mastering is very good so perhaps a black version would be an idea. Perhaps the coloured vinyl at last has seen its days, I hope. And to conclude I also hope that the country of origin of a pressing will be re-introduced instead of "Made in the EU". Pressing plant of this album is unknown as far as I know. Performance: 5 star. Pressing: 3 star.
-
I think this would be a 5 star release albeit the track Turtleneck. Every time the track comes on I feel like the flow of the album just breaks. Sounds like a midwest barband to me. Otherwise great album, tho, it's no Trouble Will Find Me. As for the pressing, it's FAIR. Clean for the most part, but when it has surface noise, it HAS surface noise.
-
Fairly good pressing, but a bit of surface noise throughout. My blue EU records were covered in cardboard flakes brand new out of the packet so pulling it out that first time sounded like nails on a chalkboard. Had to replace the inner sleeves with poly ones.
-
Just finished the first play through of my Blue vinyl EU issue. Not amazing but a good presing, I always clean records before playing (vinyl revival) a little bit of surface noise on the run ins but otherwise clean. I have the yellow vinyl of boxer and the quality is very similar to that, if not a bit better. No warping, pressed on centre. Packaging is good... would have been nice to get poly lined sleeves though. As for the music.... side b with the single on it stood out after the first listen... definitely a grower.

My blue copy sounds pretty good. There is, unfortunately, always the possibility that bad pressings are out there. I always clean my records with my RCM before I play them.

I got this version of the LP today in my local record store (i.e. "4AD0020LPE MADE IN EU", translucent blue).
I like the songs/music after a first listen, but I am sad to say that I am disappointed with the pressing. Especially disc 1 has a lot of surface noise. Note that the noise is not due to particles that can be swept away with a record brush. It could possibly be due to microscopic vinyl particles still lying around in the grooves, I do not know. I will have to clean this album before I know if that might help.
I should add that on my disc 1, I find track B2, "Born To Beg", especially noisy, with almost a constant foundation of pops and audible, undesirable artefacts.
Disc 2, on the other hand, sounds much better. It is almost like the two discs were pressed at different pressing plants, or by different people.
I would be very interested in hearing other people's experiences with this pressing.
