This is my 3rd favorite WEller album , sad to discover this great artist so late but better than never. This album to me is his Zenith, man firing on all cilinders. Mainly acoustic and introspective , certainly soul touching. . Can't understand why is so unknown in the US. The man is a master songwriter/ composer; so glad discovered in 2022 listening to a 2CD "The Jam Story" and went from there discovering jewel after jewel. This album is a masterpiece.

Edited 4 years agoA fantastic album, all acoustic, with a high quality thick glossy Gatefold sleeve and nice integrated booklet. Supplying inners is poor but I always use Nagaoka 102 anti-static inners inside the inner sleeves anyway so that doesn’t both me.
Reading with interest that a significant number of pressings suffer from non-fill but my copy is fantastic. Visually fine, dead quiet vinyl and audiophile sound. I pre-ordered from Amazon as soon as it was announced so perhaps I was lucky and got an early pressing. -
Has there been a second, cheaper pressing of this? Just got it from Amazon UK. Inner sleeves are poly-lined; side C (the first I played based on comments here) sounds great, but no card and no eight-page inner booklet....

Edited 6 years agoThis is a beautiful album unlike anything Paul Weller has done before. It's made up of more quiet, acoustic tracks with beautiful arrangements. Unfortunately side three seems to have issues. After thoroughly cleaning this pressing I felt that disc one was pretty good-- great sounding and not marred by excessive surface noise-- most of which was low level ticks and not a single loud pop. Disc two side C is another matter. It suffers from loud persistent non-fill distortion. The label should replace this disc. I'm going to them and inquire about this as it is apparently a common problem.
UPDATE: I have now tried three copies of this LP from two separate stores. Side three is defective on all of them. Coincidence? I think not. Side three is full of non-fill and other distortions on the opening track and then again dispersed randomly throughout the other tracks on side three. This many duds usually indicates the use of a contaminated or over-used stamper. The label ought to issue a replacement for disc two given this many problems. -
Sadly the vinyl pressing is faulty. I have had two copys from different sources and they have very crackle noise particularly on sides 1 and 3 as others here have reported. On close inspection under bright light, a pressing defect known as Non-fill is evident. It looks like strings of little white dots where the groove has not formed properly due to poor pressing.
I would urge all to return them for refunds, it's not acceptable, record pressing plants shouldn't be palming us off with this overpriced shoddy ptoduct

Great Album.Works better for me with this one, to hear all the songs in one go, on CD. Love the tip of the hat to Bolan on Mayfly.

Good copy, although like JATPL side three is a little noisier but in my case not intrusive.
In the dead wax there is etched what could be CV. Any ideas what this may refer to? -
This is an excellent album but I did find my copy to be a bit clicky, even after several washes. Side C seemed to have quite a few.

Great record! A bit mellow but the sound quality is excellent and the pressings are quiet and dead flat on my deck.
I swapped my sleeves out for Mobile Fidelity sleeves. Much nicer. -
agree with the comment about the poly lined sleeves.
the gatefold opening on the main sleeve seem a bit on the small/tight side.not so easy to get the vinyl in and out.
great album.
