"Isle of the Cheetah" was mixed by Brian Malouf at The Right Track, New York, NY, with Brian Garten Assisting.

The titles for tracks D1 and D2 are swapped on the jacket and label artwork, with "Aphids" listed first followed by "Puppets".
The title for track B3 is written incorrectly as "Dreamboats" on the label, but written correctly as "Dreamboat" on the back artwork.
From the half-sheet insert card:
"Dear Listener:
This vinyl copy of Downward Is Heavenward was created from 1/2" analog masters that were sequenced and edited using a razor blade and splicing tape. The mastering process utilized only analog technology, with the lacquer for each side cut directly from analog masters. At no time were the stereo masters digitized.
This is not the cheapest, fastest, or easiest way to make a vinyl LP, but it's a process that I enjoy and one that provides its own special set of rewards. I hope that you enjoy the resulting unique listening experience. Making this special copy of Downward available for you, after all these years, and the enthusiasm with which it is being received, is humbling and more gratifying than you can know.
With warmest regards,
Matt Talbott

THIS is how you reissue a record. Every band that has a fan base asking for reissues, do it just like Hum. Spare no expense and do it right.
-
Edited one year agoHum's entire discography (minus Fillet Show) - available in standard black and color variants - just dropped on Polyvinyl.
-
Per Matt Talbott, represses (standard black and color TBD) will be up for preorder mid-summer 2023 and will ship before the end of the year.

Ordered the blue vinyl from EA a week ago. I have listened to this CD countless times over the years. The previous comments hit it on the head. Much warmer, better separation, etc.. I will say this, this album shines on headphones. Mind-blowingly so. This may very well be the best sounding record that I own. It is purely a joy to listen to. It is the feeling of being suspended in a Jello mold of sound.

Another press (Blue) is up for sale as of right now. Likely won't last long. https://earthanalogrecords.bigcartel.com/product/downward-is-heavenward-re-issue-180g-blue-vinyl

Edited 3 years agoIt's very handy to have the sellers list [of sealed copies] here, so that I know exactly who I'll never be giving money to in the future.

Adding another comment to the outstanding sound quality on this release. It just simply sounds marvelous. The comment below about tears being shed is likely not an individual reaction...this release is stunning. Definitely a slightly different sound than the original CD we all know so well, but this pressing is warm, dynamic and there is a really nice separation between the tracks. It's a great mix. Plus we get Puppets, Aphids, and Boy With Stick. We really couldn't have asked for anything more. I wish that all my favorite albums had been re-pressed with such care and comion. The packaging is fantastic to boot.

Growing up with this on cassette, cd and now playing it on my turntable I cried. It was definitely worth the wait and I hope everyone will get a copy soon so they can experience the blissful sounds of downward on wax.
