Edited 4 years agoI've only listened to the last repress on the colour vinyl. Really don't understand all those comments about noisy pressing. I cleaned my copy with Okki Nokki. I clean every record I own - even new, before 1st playing. My copy sounds fantastic. No pops, no noise, sound is pretty decent.

Edited 4 years agoI'd recommend not paying $200+ for this because you're taking a big gamble. A large portion of them are going to sound like shit... don't listen to anyone trying to pretend it's worth these prices. Mine sounded absolutely awful. I sold mine barely played to a variant collector and made sure he knew it sounded bad. These sellers are trying to trick you.

Edited 4 years agoI managed to grab the repress from DC last year. As far as lush, tonal, ambient music with dreamy production goes, this is a great album. But like others here, a couple sides on my pressing (particularly side A) also have some distortion issues. A proper cleaning (with record cleaner solution) and a new stylus have not helped at all. Just be aware of this if you pick it up second hand at present market values--you may still find yourself playing the digital s instead. It's really too bad because this album deserves so much better. At least it has the bonus track.

Bought a copy because I absolutely love this album. I waited months for it to show up at my door only for it to sound like ass on the side A. Super disappointed in this release and in Dream Catalogue for allowing such a hot garbage quality record to make it to everyone.

Edited 5 years agoAs a collector I'm happy to own this, the package is great, the colour and stuff... as a music lover it's mostly like listening to a frying pan. I don't understand the necessity pressing in Taiwan in poor low quality.

Edited 5 years agoI received my copy back in late November. Color is different than the mockup. One record is dark marbled purple/pink and the other is pale purple with a white wash. Perfectly flat, no warp. Has a few ticks during the end of Side A, but otherwise it's noise free the rest of the way.

I must've gotten lucky, because my copy sounds pretty much perfect fresh out of the packaging. There's very minimal cracks and pops, but it's pretty similar to what I hear on my other records so I'm more inclined to blame my setup than the record itself. Still, I'll clean it up properly and see if it makes a difference.

Edited 5 years agoI don't own them, but I guess this just has the same issues as the previous releases. The music is great but the vinyl itself is so damn NOISY. There are examples of great ambient releases on vinyl (most of the SOTL albums I own are completely noiseless), but this isn't one of them. Maybe if it was mixed a little louder it would drown out the massive wall of static and pops, I don't know. It's almost unlistenable from start to finish.
HKE talks endlessly about how much money he puts into DreamCat, I was thinking this time around he would have seen the reviews for previous releases (given how active he is) and take those criticisms into . Maybe spend more on higher-quality pressings, maybe from other pressing factories? Even then, that would probably justify the price tag a little more. $40 for a 2xLP is rough and I'd only be willing to spend that much on music I'd enjoy as much as I enjoy this album, or something with more content or more discs. This is pressing quality I'd expect from something half that price, and I've gotten better from that much as well. (I've also had custom pressings for 2xLPs made for less.)
Saving a star because the glossy packaging is great, it practically lights up the room with the bright neon colors.
Sadly I buy vinyl for the music (I know, right?) and this just doesn't deliver, which is even more a disappointment because this was one of my most sought-after for over two years and I was really excited to get the chance to own it.
