First version of "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" was on Johnny Rivers's CHANGES album, from September, 1966. Pat Boone recorded his version of the song for single's release about mid-July, 1967, (7/20-25/1967) with Bill Justus ("Raunchy" on Sun and A&R for Mercury Nashville a bit later), and Glen Campbell's version was part of a session that also recorded "Hey Little One" (matrix 45-58197), and "...Phoenix" (matrix 45-58198) in early August, 1967. Al DeLory added the orchestra overdubs to "Phoenix" on 8/17/1967. Boone's 45 on Dot Records 17045 appeared on radio station indie charts a week before Glen Campbell's version on the East Coast. Boone's version never made the national charts.
