Edited 4 years agoEven though I have heard "Energy Flash" so many times it always ignites a spark, not just from playing the track out & watching the place go mental, or doing the same when someone else drops it, but it just has that magic for me that draws you in as soon as you hear it, I can't explain why or what - some tunes just do that ! Is it the driving beats - vocal - or hypnotic acid groove, who knows, who cares its just a fantastic track. A true classic, that probably over shadows the three other great tracks on this 12", but its not hard to see why.

All 4 tracks of this amazing EP are on my iPod and that means something ;-) Quality R&S release! If you want these tracks on CD, all 4 tracks are on the compilation CD https://discogs.pelisguay.com/Joey-Beltram-Classics/release/17093 with amazing good sound quality.

Stupidly original, and amazingly good. This was xtc raving and it could be the theme to those late 80s raves.

Edited 12 years agoWhat can be said about Energy Flash that hasn't already? Not much I bet. 20+ years on and this techno track still remains a firm favourite for me.
The programming is simple yet extremely effective; the hard bass compliments the bassline and the floaty ambient noises to perfection then the minimal synth stabs with their ever so slight variations take it another level. -
After listening to the EP in full length after quite some time (years) I must it that i never appreciated the rest of the tunes on offer here. First of all they all play at 45 rpm and while Jazz 3033 is a nice piece of jazzy Techno it is the Subsonic Bass tune on the flipside that really is worth the additional review. It uses the same Hoover Bass sampled by every d+b artist in the mid 90ies that makes this a groover. It is nearly as good as Energy Flash and will work same way without people recognizing where this comes from. Beltram sure - but this is not so popular esp. today - So even if you got Energy Flash on Vinyl get this EP for the B side inner Track. The bass is boomy on b2, so it is not as enjoyable, but towards the end the pysychotic note comes across very fine. Excellent EP.

Nearly 20 years on and this track is still an essential Techno tune. We are of course, talking about "Energy Flash". To think this came from the mind of a 19 year old too.
This is a very impressive track that still sounds fresh today. I'm surprised this hasnt been bootlegged, but then, how do you top Beltrams masterpiece? It's actually quite nice to see the respect producers have for the track and wont touch it.
R & S definately saw the future with this one, it's visionaries like this that keep techno/dance/electronica exciting, even if no one understands them at the time. R & S, you are missed. -
Edited 20 years agoaccording to an interview with joey in german techno mag groove, issue 90, this record was actually to be released on the nu groove-label. guess this would´ve made it much harder to get nowadays. anyway, joey was touring europe with derrick may in 1990 and paid a visit to the r&s headquarters, played a demo of this track and both renaat and derrick licensed it on the spot. according to him joey wasn't even aware til that day that this music was called "techno".

"energy flash" summons what Techno is all about - simple , but effective 4/4 beats and loud shouts for E ;-). if ever there is or was an anthem 4 all dancefloors 2 unite , you should pick this classic track..
