Edited one year agoThe recording date is wrong on the LP back cover. It was actually recorded in October 1978 as mentioned on the OBI. This album is part of the different sessions at CBS Tokyo that gave Direct Step, The Piano and Butterfly. A special version of the Headhunters band was touring worldwide in of the album Sunlight. An excellent show was recorded in September at Tokyo Sun Plaza on September 28th. It's interesting to listen to the arrangement of Butterfly which will mature for the Direct Step recording and be simplified a little for Kimiko Kasai version. From the same touring band, a concert was broadcasted on video by the BBC in Chelsea, England in March 1979 for the series Rock Goes To College. -
Edited 6 years agoExcellent album here..I recently discovered this. A shame it was never released in the USA.
Great musicianship from Herbie Hancock & Co.
Kimiko's vocals are decent, but fall a bit short on the cover of Stevie's "As". That one has her on a very strident delivery that she does not quite nail. On the other songs, she does just fine though.
