This is a superb recording, but I have to it that the original pressing I also own gets very close to the MoFi version. As Funnystuff mentioned, the lower bass is less pronounced in the MoFi version. In of bass, I would prefer the first pressing, for the rest I would go for the MoFi recording. -
I don't care about the source. It sounds better than any other digital version I've heard. Haven't given the MoFi lp a spin yet. Looking forward to that as I was already quite impressed with the previous (?) remaster. I'm still a fan of most MoFis...

Edited one year agoThe source for this SACD is -as confirmed by mofi- the 16-bit/44.1-kHz PCM-master.
So, whatever differences or gains are to be expected from this release, keep in mind that the original CD already was capable of reproducing the master-file 1:1, and it still sounds fantastic today!
This SACD sounds fine. Having a PCM-signal going through DSD, only to have it converted back to PCM in the D/A-section of 99% of the SACD-Players out there, that’s all one can hope for, I guess (very few players have a true DSD-output-capabiliy).
Comparing the CD & the SACD, to my ears the differences are close to non-existent (no surprise at all, given the digital nature of the source). So, whatever difference is there, it must come from EQ. The mofi sure does have a little less punch in the lower end frequencies, reducing the impact of drums, bass, etc., making me actually prefer the CD over the SACD.
Got my copy to finalize the collection, no other reason to bother. The early, all-analogue Dire-Straits albums on mofi-SACD are an absolute blast, though! -
This MoFi sure beats my original cd, the sacd has Brilliant Soundstage, perfect highs and lows, percussion is spot on, vocals are awesome !!!
