Edited 6 months agoThe RSDBF 2024 release made everyone forget about this terrible release from earlier in 2024 (almost).
-
Side 2 noisy throughout with repeating clicks and other pressing glitches. Music varied and interesting.

I welcome the less fusion-y selections here, with excellent selections from 1960s-1970s releases by Joe Henderson, Gary Bartz, Azar Lawrence, and Ran Blake, with ensemble contributions from Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, Billy Higgins, Yusef Lateef, George Bohanon, and Pat Patrick (from Sun Ra's Arkestra). Two suprises are the Ran Blake Three Seeds suite (1969) and Dungills Night Drums (Vee Jay, 1963). It would be great if Craft/JD released more full LPs by artists on Vee Jay Records, including many jazz, blues, R&B, and gospel albums that have not been printed in a long time. (my copy is clean and quiet)

Tried two copies - repeating ticks in the same spot on both of the during S2 T2.
So disappointed with Craft/Jazz Dispensary lately - every record I’ve bought in ‘24 is full of pops/tics.
Great you get Kevin Gray to do releases and then press them like crap.

Edited one year agoSide A is good; Side B... not so much. Especially the recording of the piano on the last track -- it is so distorted, it's unlistenable. Plus the usual crackle of colored vinyl as an extra distraction. Surprisingly underwhelming release in this series. :-(

Edited one year agoList at my shop was $25, which is fair given RSD standards. Cover is a bit of let down compared to previous and RSD First means no reason to pay up as it will come out again if you wait. Can’t really blame them as they were leaving lots of money on the table and fans missing out with exclusive releases that got cult status later.

two very different sides to this record. can understand some not loving the full compilation, but I'm a fan. great looking vinyl as well!
