Edited 27 days agoVery happy with this pressing! Recently I got a few records from Music on Vinyl where the mastering was quite disappointing, like they didn't put any effort into it. This actually seems to be a straight repress of the 2011 pressing, they couldn't do anything wrong here, so buy with confidence - and you should buy this as soon as possible, before this album will be out of print again for years! It has a lot of life to it, with depth and details and a real analogue sound. The pressing itself is super quiet and looks beautiful. I also really like the packaging, which isn't your standard sleeve, but of raw, matte card, which fits the artwork.
If you don't know this album yet, this is something like the crowning jewel of all the countless hidden gems of 60's Psych Pop that never got famous. If you are like me and your favourite Beach Boys album isn't "Pet Sounds" but "Sunflower", this album will also blow your mind! "Begin" and "Sunflower" are actually considered the peak of the so-called Sunshine Pop subgenre. Absolutely essential album for every 60s collection, the complexity of the production and the songwriting of some songs was quite ahead of its time, for example "The Island" or "Karmic Dream Sequence". Other songs are simply 60s pop perfection that can compete with almost anything from that era, for example "To Claudia on Thursday", "It's You", or my absolute favourite here "There Is Nothing More to Say", which is pure bliss!
I'm still hoping to get my hands on the 2019 Sundazed Kevin Gray cut eventually, which I expect to be the best sounding modern pressing of this album. But for now this is a really satisfying issue that I will spin a lot. -
Amazing reissue! Very quiet and sounds amazing, definitely if you’re wanting this can get your hands on this I do recommend it -
Edited one month agoOuter sleeve with waxed side inside and flat matte outside. Was this intentional? Printing seems faded and the label is not replica like Sundazed. Sounds better than 2008 Sundazed. -
