Organized Konfusion – Organized Konfusion

Super dope release, waaaay ahead of its time in of lyrical density and conceptual lyricism(check "releasing hypnotical gasses"). I wasnt even born when this was released but I can recognize the genius because it truly is timeless.... like Jimi Hendrix timeless. If you had the Freestyle Fellowship representing top notch lyricism, intricate styling, and out-of-this-world thematics on the west coast, Organized Konfusion was surely doing the same on the east. Both groups released their debuts the same year and blew everyones wigs back on their respective coasts and then went on to become legends all over the world before the internet through the trading of their tapes. When you buy this album, be sure to cop Freestyle Fellowship's debut "To Whom It May Concern". These two albums go hand in hand like right-brain creativity and left-brain logic. They both epitomize the styles of their respective coasts at their "Threshold of enlightenment", as Mikah 9 would say.

OK, my 2xLP also has cat number HB-61212-1. But the run out grooves are HB-61212-1 A, HB-61212-1 B, etc. I can't seen another like that here. Or have I missed it?

Got me? But I'm pretty sure mine's the OG cause I can compare the matrix code to the "Who stole my last piece of chicken" promo cd matrix and they are the same "style". Promo cd's don't get rereleased.

It's obvious there are two different releases but I can't find anywhere the information when EDC pressed this reissue...Any help?

Yeah, this has been rereleased. I have 2 different versions of it, and it's clear which one is newer than the other. I'll check tonight to see what the OG matrix code is.

I'm curious if this CD was ever repressed because on my copy it's written "MADE IN USA BY EDC" and there is an EDC trademark as well. According to the EDC website the company has been established in 2005, so how the CD could be pressed in 1991? Can someone please add some matrix information to this release? thx

Sure enough by 1991 there have been many great hip hop releases, and despite the fact that the genre's golden period was about to end, one of the all time classics somehow slipped under everybody's radar.
As much as wordmiths and witty lyricists like (above all) Rakim, Kool G Rap, Ice Cube, Kool Keith of the Ultramagnetic MCs, Big Daddy Kane, Chuck D or KRS-ONE all proved themselves to be top of the league, it was not until I heard Prince Poetry and Pharoahe Monch of Organized Konfusion that I really understood what lyrical density is.
Damn, these guys toke good rhymes constantly without a break to take in some air. If Kool G Rap is regarded as the father of multi syllabic lyricism, then this duo decided out of the blue to up their game two steps above anybody on the scene. Just check this word play on Releasing Hypnotical Gases, which has got to be the most complex hip hop track written by 1991:
"And so I play with rhythms, for something more than a mere game
enabling me to advance in wisdom
Words will exist like vampires
No need for sunlight, from concentrations camps I escape
with my sanity -- in 2010 every man will be
subject to global warming, formless oval
Millions of locusts swarming"
What more to say? This one has it all, from fast, funny, thought provoking lyrics to an entire plethora of sounds and samples applied, with neck snapping beats and an overall old school feel, while still pushing the envelope way into the future.
Along with Ras Kass' debut album "Soul on ice", this is easily the greatest achievement in lyrical territory I have heard to date as far as hip hop music goes.

Many copies of this album are defective in that they only play through the left channel of stereo systems. I found that I could fix the problem by converting the songs to MP3 format, but when listening to the CD alone (no matter what device), music will only play through one side, which is annoying especially when using headphones. But technical flaws aside, this is an essential 90s hip-hop album, very uptempo and lyrically dense, and definitely worth checking out if you can get a fully functioning copy.
