The irony of Track 1 being Le Freak!
From genius.com
On New Year’s Eve 1977, disco star Grace Jones had invited Rodgers and Edwards to the exclusive widely popular New York City nightclub Studio 54 but hadn’t put them on the guest list.
After being denied access by an ignorant rude doorman and despite the fact that Chic’s music was regularly played in the club, the pair angrily left and ending up creating what would become one of the era’s most enduring classic dance-funk songs.
As Nile Rodgers told Sound On Sound:
We were so pissed off at what had happened. I mean, it was Studio 54, it was New Year’s Eve, it was Grace Jones, and we were wearing the most expensive outfits that we had… We grabbed a couple of bottles of champagne from the corner liquor store and then went back to my place, plugged in our instruments and started jamming.
Originally the song featured the lyrics “Fuck off!“ but by the end of the night Rodgers had lightened it up a bit:
That night we actually converted ‘fuck off’ to ‘freak out’. First, we changed it from ‘fuck off’ to ‘freak off’ and that was pretty hideous. Then, all of a sudden, it just hit me. For one second, the light bulb went on and I sang ‘Aaaaahh, freak out!’

Edited 2 years agoOK, Studio 54 was the mecca for celebs where they partied and did drugs until the wee hours of the morning...Everyone ended up here in the 70's when they were in the Big Apple...I went to an MTV party once in the old t and it rocked that night as some great LIVE acts hit the stage and tore it up...On this LP is my fav disco number, "Last Dance"...sure I like the song and Donna BUT when I hear it I always smile a bit for it was that cut I played as the LAST song in my DJ gigs and it meant the evening was finally over and I was headed home...Segue cuts, tons of disco, and plenty of memories in this two record set...

Недавно случайно нашел эту пластинку в музыкальном магазине. Не поверил глазам! Взял не раздумывая. Классика диско!

I first saw this album as in an Import when I was a student in Glasgow & always regretted not buying it despite the high cost. I’m now retired in Spain & thanks to two vendors in the EU I now have two copies. The album itself doesn’t have a single track on it that you can’t dance to, it mixes each track seamlessly (if a bit quick by some of today’s DJ mixers), however it’s still an awesome bit of iconic disco history. Buy a copy & you’ll be shaking your groove thing as if it was the Disco Era all over again.

Edited 4 years agoWow, this vinyl is a gem for any dance music lover...Especially Disco fans. Studio 54 may have been closed but the music lives on forever for generations with this absolutely amazing release encapsulating the peak era of disco. These tracks are all continuously mixed together like a DJ set so it is the perfect record for entertaining. The mixing style of these tracks are more of a quick but or 5 second beat match transition from one track to the next. So don't expect the long 20-30 seconds modern house music mixing transition style...this mixing technique hasn't happened yet until the mid 80's. Nevertheless, the mixing is perfect. This 2 vinyl record set release also comes with original Casablanca branded inner sleeves. Excellent pressing. The audio fidelity is very good and Chic's Freak Out is one of the best masterings I've heard on vinyl, even better than on Chic's own record which was always a bit lacking on the highs for my preference. Spotify may have this album but it is not continuously mixed so technically, Spotify doesn't really have this album per se, they just put all of these individual tracks together like a playlist to mimic this album. Not the same vibe at all without the classic Studio 54 mixing plus some tracks are not available on Spotify. Another release why you would want to own this vinyl record.

If you fine archaeologists will notice on these records is more than often quite a few razor mark slits on the glossy shiny 54 lettering on the album's cover, people were getting their skiing on and boogieing down to the groove, lol! I love that that's a thing with copies of this record. This record set is a great artifact of a now-in-hindsight, musical timelessness perfectly capturing it's pop cultural zenith while it's occurring. That's Studio 54. Dig?

This is literally a night at Studio 54. Each track transitions into the next seamlessly like a DJ would. .
