Electronic music wunderkind Nicolas Jaar s up with guitarist Dave Harrington for a trip to the Darkside, the "Golden Arrow" quietly throbs into life, diffusing and refracting different sonic texture before clarifying into a steady thump with some slight country-western influences, before Jaar's howl pierces through. "Heart" continues this feel with its rockabilly shoegaze attitude and electronic thuds; "Paper Trails," meanwhile, slides around with a smooth six-string twang. "The Only Shrine I've Seen" goes slightly more upbeat rhythmically with a laid-back break, while "Freak, Go Home" piles on the layers of haze. "Greek Light" takes a meditative, melancholy path, before the funk of "Metatron" closes the album on a soulful note the grows Victorian in its instrumentation towards the end. Quiet and engrossing..
