So innocent and angelical, yet so subtly but evocatively dark.
This album catch that darkness pertained and contained within what we use to call love. That inscrutable black magic in which many people deposit their fortunes, their souls rest and ultimately their lives.
This album (not a coincidence related with Mr David Lynch and his world of ambivalence and life obscurities) depicts that portion of noir music, dramatic, romantic and sweet with a paintbrush of nightly character, mysterious and partly melancholic.
Cruise's voice is evocative of sensual drama, yet the music restricts the ion and promotes a suscinct atmosphere of night mist, a part of dream and part lament, cold enough to just warm up people's hearts only and refresh the body with a gelids touch.
Orchestration is just magnificent, cool jazz going noir with a cinematic underlay. Paced and downtuned, with very cool lasting tempos. Sliding trumpets like silk in the night air, dense bass lines that surround like darkness and slow drum rolls that leaves a tray of vastness.
The avenues of the soul and life agreed in just one place, in that unique world only possible within music.
Classic album. A must for the lovers, and the night walkers. -

Edited 18 years agoFirst encounter i had with Julee Cruise was with Twin Peaks series back in the early 90's where she performed on stage in one episode singing "Rockin' Back Inside My Heart". And i ed that song for 10 years until i heard her first album 'Floating Into The Night', And it is all top notch stuff. The production on it is so polished and suberb for beeing a 1989 release. Mysterious, haunting themes with Cruise's velvet smooth voice is just lovely to listen to. It's all silky downtempo jazz and deep vibes mixed up with ambience that makes this a perfect Sunday home listeng album. The music can be heavily linked to the city of Hollywood or L.A in a certain way and offcourse to the movies of David Lynch whom i understand why he liked her music in the first place.
This is highly recomended stuff.
