One of the best Coltrane records I have ever heard. Hands down. Take a listen to this and you’ll be jealous you weren’t there for that. The track “Spiritual” alone is simply incredible. There is a top notch band at play here aside from Coltrane: Dolphy on Bass Clarinet, Tyner on Piano, Workman on Bass, and Elvin Jones on the drums.. The pressing is tight, nice thick stock jacket, pretty standard stuff for the Impulse label in that era. What makes this particular album so great is the range displayed by Coltrane.. there’s the off the chain and wild playing he’s almost always known for, but some very metered and pacifying work here too. If you’re a jazz fan and especially if you’re into Coltrane and you see this album: GRAB IT.
