Gute Pressung, Top Sound, tolles Debut solo Album von Peter Gabriel! -
Oh dear, I am the party pooper. First I am a fan going back to the first time I saw PG in concert in Lyon in1979. I have most of his material on vinyl and some on CD and some Hires s. This 2016 vinyl is good quality, really quiet background as you'd hope with the half-speed mastering. It is flat and decent weight. That's where it ends. The sound is poor. When it starts the levels are way to high. PG's voice when it kicks in sounds like he has a severe sore scratchy throat. The more mellow tracks sound better but still lack bottom end weight or presence. The courtesy 24 bit 96 kHz flac fares a bit better (USB audio) - PG's voice isn't quite so bad. It still sounds too clinical and lacks weight and ambience/presence. I couldn't believe it so I put on a my original charisma version - and so much better. In fact I carried on playing it through. I wasted £22. Note my system is pretty high end and neutral/accurate - someone with a warm turntable combo might like it more.

Wow this sounds good. The pressing is unbelievable too! Almost super vinyl quiet straight out of the sleeve without a clean! I did a double take to check that I had the amp on it was that quiet when I dropped the needle!

This release is fantastic. OK it would be nice to have the gatefold, but this is the cheaper alternative and maybe you'd prefer 1 33 1/3rpm disc than 2 45rpm discs... I have not heard a 45rpm one, but this sounds fantastic and does justice to an incredible album.
It is almost entirely dead silent on any pops. Has next to no surface noise.
The inner sleeve is a harbour for static so bare that in mind. Even new out of shrink it had gathered a fair bit of dirt.
Ordering from Real World Records, direct from the label wasn't a great experience. Took way longer than usual to arrive, and the confirmation/communication was non existent. -
Is the color of the car really more bluish on this version or the image submitted here misleading? Car looks a different tone than in other versions.
