I’m very familiar with the original mix and honestly this sounds absolutely fantastic.
The drums have much more punch, the songs sound the best they have with lots of clarity and some awesome separation.
Would’ve loved a gatefold, but the anti static sleeves are a nice touch- I thought they were standard plain white paper ones and was very disappointed for it being a “deluxe” edition, then noticed the lining while I was changing them into my own anti static inners.
The pressing is super flat and the glossy lettering on the back of the sleeve is lovely.
All in all, if you like this album you really can’t go wrong with this pressing.

Happy this record is free from the early/mid 2000s compression. Everything is dynamic, detailed and punchy. I think of the remix of Sgt Pepper by the Beatles. If they're gonna give Black Parade this same kind of rerelease for its 20th, we'll be in for a treat.

Both LPs arrived flat, relatively clean and played with little noticeable surface noise, even on the rare quiet parts. Big appreciation for the inclusion of poly lined sleeves instead of paper.

Though, was anyone else's spine printed in reverse? Did I get a misprint or is that how it's meant to look?

Backing vocals are SUPER quiet, (at least on my set up), but this pressing sounds PHENOMENAL. Massive improvement over the original mastering. By god, they did it. It took them 20 years but they did it.

First the bad - totally unfair pricing. Not receiving a gatefold and a double LP with the second disc having some not so memorable live performances and etched artwork doesn’t justify the price tag. Usually at this price, artists/bands do anniversary releases with a gatefold and interesting liner notes.

Now the mix - ABSOLUTELY killer! This is one of my all time favorite childhood albums. As a kid who loved both metal and pop punk, this album was the perfect combination. The old mix sounded really “grainy” and “gritty.” Yes perhaps that was the original intention but when I listen to this mix, the recording quality is so amazing that I don’t care what the original intention was. The beautiful work done by the band, recording engineer and producer was totally lost in the old mix. In this mix, you can hear the snappy drums snare, throaty distorted guitars, well balanced bass low end and proper emo vocal delivery and backing vocal design. It sounds sublime. This mix is a dream come true for any hardcore MCR fan in of sound quality.

TLDR - the superior remix serves the album better imo (there are many remixes where the hifi sound destroys the vibe/mood of the original album like Pink Floyd’s Animals remix).

Mastering - Howie Weinberg was part of the digital mastering (lacquer was probably cut from his flat transfer). It is nowhere as brickwalled as the original vinyl or the later reissues of the vinyl. It byed the loudness war! This is a win but is it an audiophile record? Of course not, but it’s still a pleasure to listen to.

I did a volume matched A/B with what’s on Spotify - and to my surprise, the Spotify version is quite brickwalled and harsh sounding. Unlike many modern reissues, this one was clearly mastered specifically for vinyl vs just taking a digital/CD master and slapping it on vinyl.

The mix and mastering of the demos are crap but like I said, they intentionally did this to make it a 2 LP and overcharge the shit out of this release.

FINALLY a decent-sounding vinyl release, a mere 21 years after its initial release! Dead quiet vinyl, great dynamics. Sounds punchy and glorious. I still maintain that releasing a 2LP set without a gatefold sleeve should be considered a war crime under most circumstances, but I'm happy enough to have this at all that I'll let it slide this time.

Absolutely beautiful looking pressing that sounds just as good. I’ve never owned the original mix on vinyl, but this pressing sounds great to my ears.

The lack of gatefold on a double disc is a huge disappointment! I've honestly never seen a double disc without a gatefold. Definitely skimped out on the packaging when they had the chance to make a thing of beauty.

Personally i have never heard other versions of this album due to all the negative reviews. Im glad i waiting because this release sounds pretty decent to my ears. Obviously the main album is on 1 disc so its not going to sound as good as a 2lp set. But for what its worth it sounds good. I recommend it
